Drug Intervention Program

DIP are opening a number of multi-agency centres across North Wales where drug users can go to receive the services they need. The aim of the centres is to reduce crime in communities and help drug users.

People will be encouraged into receiving the treatment they need whatever that may be. For some it will be a prescription and support whilst stabilizing their lives in order to move on. For some it will be help in finding employment, further education or learning how to live independently. The centres will have staff available to offer people what they need.

DIP is a criminal justice intervention and as such, the aim is to reduce drug-related crime. The model has been running in England for a year and the outcome measures show a good success rate. In North Wales we are tailoring it to the needs of our clients and our community and this should ensure that we live in communities which are safe, and that drug users are able to be an integrated part of the communities in which they live.

DIP is also there for those who leave treatment, which will ensure that there is continuity of care. This is particularly important for those who leave treatment against medical advice.
