Dual diagnosis

Many clients who present themselves to the drug and alcohol services in North Wales suffer from a combination of substance misuse and mental health problems. As a result they have often complex problems which are difficult to treat in isolation.
The Dual Diagnosis Service aims to deliver a co-ordinated mental health and substance misuse service within North West Wales. 2 specialists currently cover Gwynedd and Ynys Mon - one is based within the Community Mental Health Team in Llangefni and a second worker is based within the North West Wales NHS Trust Substance Misuse Service in Bangor.

The service works alongside existing mental health and substance misuse services to co-ordinate care for clients with complex problems. For example one client from the Community Mental Health Team (CMHT) in Llangefni underwent an inpatient detoxification prior to returning to a mental health facility.
