Midwifery

The Specialist Midwifery Liaison Service is a regional service commissioned by the 6 SMATs in North Wales & Conwy Surestart. It has been in existence since April 2000. It consists of 2 midwives & a Team Manager.

The aim of the service is to:

  • To develop policies & protocols relating to pregnant women who misuse substances.
  • To educate all professionals, who care for pregnant women who misuse substances, about the management of the pregnancy & other related issues, such as Hepatitis C.
  • To provide support & advice to all pregnant women who misuse substances referred to the service.
  • To liaise & improve communication between all professionals across North Wales.
  • To develop specialist knowledge ensuring recent research information is given at all times.
